My Dear, a Postcard from Abroad

I am interested in how travelling to other worlds - temporal, geographical, cultural, linguistic - affects my perception and thinking. Why travel today? What is left after the curiosity? To ask myself these questions is a repeated process. Especially when the appearance - of architectural beauty, for example, stands in stark contrast to my knowledge of social conditions or the meaning of a place, for example. I am deeply suspicious of the mere appearance of things. What understanding do I gain? Here I try to communicate to a loved one - perhaps a daughter, perhaps a friend – like in a postcard what seems essential to me as an insight, a few thoughts that should live on.
