Künstlerbücher sind Kunstwerke, die in ihrem Buchraum Gedanken, Ideen, Entwicklungsprozesse, Texte und Bilder aufbewahren. Wird das Buch geöffnet, angeschaut, gelesen, entsteht ein Raum nach außen und somit Kommunikation mit der Welt. Künstlerbücher können Unikate sein oder in einer Auflage gedruckt werden. Es kann sich um Konzeptbücher, Fotobücher, Leporellos, Schriftrollen handeln, aber auch um Buchobjekte, also skulpturale Objekte. Und – kann man sich ein Künstlerbuch in einem anderen Medium vorstellen, etwa als Video, Performance oder Aktion?

Artists’ books are works of art that store thoughts, ideas, development processes, texts and images within their book space. Whenever the book is opened, looked at, and read, a space is created to the outside and thus communication with the world is established. Artists’ books can be unique or printed in an edition. They can appear as concept books, photo books, leporellos, scrolls, but also book objects, i.e. sculptural objects. And—can you imagine an artist’s book in another medium, for example in the format of a video, performance or action?
